The Museum of Visual Arts will receive a new location and a new buidling. The area of the Sachsenplatz today was originally one of the most densly built up districts of the city. The end of World War II saw a huge decline in building substance. The urban masterplan negates an original repair of the city. The aim of the urban planning here is to give the Name "Sachsenplatz" a new form, to integrate it into the surrounding city spaces of Burgplatz, Thomaskirchhof, Marktplatz, Sachsenplatz and Bahnhofplatz and to correspond with the functionality of a museum.
